About Me

I am a very experienced primary school teacher. I have taught the full primary range, including FS1 & FS2. I have also previously set up and run my own small day nursery and I have taught literacy and parenting skills to adult male prisoners. I have taught abroad – inclusive of Germany and Cairo, and I have taught in three counties; Yorkshire, Dorset and the East Midlands. Although I am happy to teach Maths to LKS 2, I prefer English. My approach is not only to instill the mechanics of writing (as required by the National Curriculum) but to imbue a love of creative writing as this is one of my main passions. I am currently undertaking a creative writing degree as a (very) mature student as I believe this is a skill that can be constantly honed and improved. Therefore tasks that I will set, will involve strong elements of descriptive texts, a study of syntax – and strong challenges to awaken the imagination. I believe a love of writing is fundamental to developmental progress. Having said that, I have formerly worked in the area of Special Educational Needs, and have some understanding of the issues surrounding dyslexia – such as right-brain dominance. Therefore, I would approach any such students with the delicacy they need, embarking on individually tailored programmes of work. If you have any questions please contact me on my Q & A Group and I will come back to you as soon as possible.
